Architecture is really more like 3 bridges

Architecture is really more like 3 bridges:

There are 3 different types of architecture:
  1. enterprise architecture (global) -- consists of:
    • business architecture
      • processes
      • workflows
    • data architecture
      • entities or "things"
      • relationships
      • metadata
    • application architecture
      • partitioning
      • integration
    • technology architecture
      • infrastructure -- foundation
      • applications -- layered on top of infrastructure
        • built -- developed
        • bought -- purchased
      • business intelligence -- layered on top of applications

  2. Domain-specific Architecture
    • cross-functional or cross-organizational
    • domain specific -- e.g.,
      • security architecture
      • network architecture
      • "customer" architecture

  3. Software Architecture
    • project-centric
    • application specific -- e.g.,
      • accounts payable
      • order entry
      • sales management
