Business Intelligence

Business Intelligence is architecturally stacked as three (3) layers:

In the diagram above, the top red surface of the 3-D cube represents Data
Data that resides in data warehouses and data marts

Data that yearns to be analyzed or mined

In the middle layer, two other surfaces of the 3-D cube are visible
Green Tools that are used to DEVELOP solutions using query & reporting, data analysis, data visualization, or data mining products

Blue Analytics which are PURCHASED solutions available as commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software packages

The bottom layer of the diagram, depicted by the porthole-shaped yellow Portals (below the 3-D cube), signifies how most businesspeople access their BI tools and data using browser-based portal products that aggregate and standardize access to systems, applications, products, and data.
